Emil embarked on his journey as a professional freediving instructor in early 2012, commencing in Thailand and Indonesia, eventually settling in the Philippines. As a certified SSI Freediving Instructor Trainer, AIDA Freediving Instructor (inactive), and RAID Master Freediving Instructor (inactive), Emil teaches courses ranging from beginner to instructor levels. With his extensive experience as the Philippines’ most seasoned and long-standing professional freediving instructor, he upholds a standard of excellence in his teaching, always ensuring the utmost care and attention is provided to his students.
Additionally, Emil is a certified Red Cross lifeguard, a PADI scuba dive professional, and a React Right Emergency First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Provider instructor. Although he still enjoys scuba diving, his passion for freediving has taken precedence, as he finds comfort in its simplicity.
Emil’s love for diving first surfaced in 1999, where he has been immersing himself in aquatic activities ever since. Prior to his pursuit of the water, he led a thriving career in the corporate sector, holding degrees in computer science and information technology. However, his passion for diving led him to leave the corporate world and pursue his dream of long-term travel.
Emil’s journey as a freediving instructor commenced after taking his first freediving course while on his travels. His profound appreciation for yoga and meditation also led him to complete a Yoga Alliance accredited traditional yoga teacher course and attend retreats in India and Nepal. Through his continuous learning and understanding of the mind and body, Emil has found that it complements his teaching style, allowing him to provide an all-encompassing and enriching experience to his students.
